Happy Easterimates

Easter is one week away. Some of you already had your Spring Break, while some have it this week and some will have it the following week. Phew!!!! Regardless, here are a few Easter estimates (or Easterimates) for your sweet tooth. Let's kick it off with Day 119 and a couple of chocolate bunnies. Estimate their Net Weight and watch those chocolate bunnies grow for a couple of days. Good luck! Hope you brought your rabbit's leg?
Lastly, let's estimate the amount of delicious malted eggs inside a rather tall cylinder on Day 122. Video answer coming soon! Happy Easterimates!
Hop to it!

St. Patrick's Day marshtimates

I didn't have much time to find St. Patrick's Day things to estimate. However, I came across a few bags of Key Lime Green Marshmallows and thought I'd stretch out a few days of estimation. Starting at Day 116, pretend making S'mores with green mallows. How many will fit on that skewer. Day 117 has some mallows sitting comfortably in a glass, one commonly used to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with your beverage of choice. Last, but not least, is Day 118 (my favorite) where you have to complete the 4-leaf clover of mallows. I'll say that again, estimate the amount of mallows necessary to complete the clover. Cheers!

Happy Pi Day

Pi Day is approaching. However you celebrate it (or don't celebrate it), there are a few days worth checking out this week in honor of that irrational (crazy) number. Have your students tackle 3.14 days of eating pie starting at Day 112. Have them estimate both the degrees and percentage eaten. After that, finish the celebration by estimating the number of Pi symbols on the front of my Pi tie.
I snuck in a couple of height days with Day 110 (a bus) and Day 111 (UCLA parking structure). Enjoy!
Up next, St. Patrick's Day!

I believe estimation is key to building number sense and being a better problem solver. I explore middle school math with my students.
